What is EPR CERTIFICATION ? EPR FULL Form (Extended Producer Responsibility)

Waste is something that will never face an end. Worldwide, waste is generated in bulk every year. We have entered 21st century. The time is passing and we are seeing a huge growth in the population. The term EPR was first coined in the early 90s, it is intended to provide incentive to the manufacturers for designing such products, which are further usable and recyclable. Now, you all might be wondering that how EPR does this? Actually, EPR makes producers responsible to build the product that are useful and recyclable for long term. As a result, less waste will be generated and problem of its disposal will also be fixed. This also advantages for the production of reliable products with the safe of environment.

According to Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) is a strategy for environmental protection, for which the key is handed to manufacturers for extending the life of products.

After application of this concept, now the job of manufacturers is not just limited to designing of products, but is also extended to proper disposal of products. Now if consumers don’t want to hold product for longer, it is responsibility of manufacturers to receive it back and dispose it properly.

The manufacturers now had to re- design their products by keeping the thought of environment welfare, also to incorporate the cost of waste management into the price of their products, simply by increasing their product's reliability. There are various kinds of products under EPR certification which includes, electrical equipment, paint, oil, etc..

Most of the European countries had introduced the concept of EPR to manufacturers for packaging of electrical equipment and many others. Beside Europe, US, Canada, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand have also applied similar kind of programs.
